We’re Building A House – #TheMountainViewHouse
After a year of planning and a couple months of site prep, we are actually building our new home! I’m dubbing it #TheMountainViewHouse because this house is all about taking in those amazing views.
I’ve mentioned before here on the blog that I have a long-standing love of farmhouses old and new – old ones because of their charm and character, and modern ones because of their clean and simple aesthetic. This house represents a fusion of these three loves: 1) the mountain view 2) charming old homes, and 3) the more pared down interiors of modern farmhouses.
#TheMountainViewHouse – plans and progress
Today I’m giving you the first peek of #TheMountainViewHouse style and talking for just a couple minutes about how we’re incorporating my three loves into our home.
This side of the house incorporates some of the things we love about old homes – intimate spaces, and architectural interest with dormer windows, a cozy porch, and shed roofs.
The front of our house faces up into the hillside. We’ll have view of sage brush, blue sky, and lots and lots of deer. Oh, and not another house in sight – ever! That’s another thing we loved about this location. We’ll never have another house behind us (or anywhere near really), and we’re pretty excited about that. I promise we’re not anti-social – at least not most of the time 🙂 but we do like space and views!

The back of the house faces that mountain view I showed you earlier, so we incorporated lots of big windows and a nice big deck to enjoy the sunsets from.
Breezeway connecting the house to the garage
The garage is designed to look like a monitor-style barn. It will be sided mostly with stone, which will help evoke the vintage barn/home feel.
I’m getting major inspiration from this barn restoration by Kate Johns, AIA. I just love the old-world feel of the stone foundation (and how the foundation of this barn ties in so beautifully to the original stone of the Dutch farmhouse section on the left). I’d love to evoke a similar vintage barn feel with the stone on our garage.
I’ll be posting regular updates, as well as showing mood boards and inspiration pics as I work on each room of our home. Hope you’ll stop in soon to see what’s new and the design decisions I’ve made.
Thanks for stopping by today – hope you enjoyed the first peek of #TheMountainViewHouse!
