Tips for creating a welcoming guest room
It’s almost that time of year again – the holiday season when out of town family and friends come to visit for the holidays. We all want our family and friends to feel like welcome guests in our homes, but sometimes it’s a stressful process getting to that point!
I hope these simple tips will help you feel ready to welcome your special overnight visitors:
1) Comfy Bedding
Make sure your guest room has enough blankets so that your guests can easily add an extra layer to the bed if they should get chilly during the night. And it helps if those extra blankets are right there in the room within reach, so nobody has to stumble around in the dark. We don’t want any black-eyed guests come breakfast time! A couple varieties of pillows is great, too in case your guest really needs a firm (soft, fluffy, down, etc) pillow to get a good rest.
2) Bedside Lamp
A bedside lamp turned on in anticipation of a guest’s arrival always seems so cheery and welcoming to me. And once your guests are settled in their room, a lamp will make it easy for them to snuggle in bed for some night-time reading, if desired.
3) A few good books or magazines
Keeping a few books or magazine in the guest room is a nice way to invite your guests to relax and enjoy their vacation.
4) A clock
A clock on the nightstand is just plain handy – especially if your guests have traveled from a different time zone.
A pretty and simple vase of flowers, or even a single flower in a bud vase is always a nice touch. (This one’s fake because I don’t have a handy source of fresh flowers nearby. You get the picture, though, right?)
6) A little something yummy
Okay, this one is totally an extra, but really? Who wouldn’t want to be greeted with a little sweet treat upon their arrival. I know I wouldn’t be disappointed to find a nice little chocolate something waiting for me after a long trip!
I hope these simple tips helped you feel prepared for your holiday guests, and I hope you get to spend time this holiday season with loved ones, whether you are the host or the traveler!
If you are hosting overnight friends or family this holiday season and are feeling some panic about the state of your guest room, give me a ring or drop me an email!
I’d love to help you get your guest room ready for your special visitors! There’s still time to pull a comfy and welcoming room together, and I’d love to help you do it!
Have a happy day, friends!
