The Tale of a Bread Box

One day, I decided to take a ride down Main Street in my cute little mountain town. I popped into a few stores, including a new antique store which had recently open. I had fun browsing the rooms, where the shop owner had artistically displayed all kinds of fun artifacts from the past.

In the kitchen room, my eye was immediately drawn to a white enameled canister set (complete with a big, beautiful bread box) nestled among Pyrex and vintage dishtowels. I rushed over to the set, inspected it for rust or damage, then immediately whisked it away to the check-out counter before any other shoppers could snatch it away from me.

I brought the little set home, and promptly placed it in a spot of honor on my kitchen counter, where it has lived happily ever after.

Yep – that’s the tale of how this charming vintage canister set came to reside at my house.

And ever since that day (almost three years ago), this bread box and canister set has helped to brighten my kitchen through every season’s decorating.

At Christmas time, it took on a rosy glow.

At Valentine’s, it served as a backdrop for pretty pink, red, and white candies.

Or pretty pink flowers.

And in the fall it’s the backdrop for pretty white ghost pumpkins.

And, almost as sure as the fact that this cute little set (grounded by that big, beautiful bread box) will appear in every seasonal kitchen shot, is the fact that someone on Instagram will ask me where I got it from, and where they can find one like it!

Since my set is vintage, I can’t direct you to an exact replica, but I have been excited as I’ve seen cute metal bread boxes popping up in other people Instagram feeds and in various shops online.

So I thought today that I would share with you some darling bread boxes finds. I hope one of these treasures will make it onto your kitchen counter!
