A Traditional Kitchen with a Modern Feel
Designing an entire home can be a daunting task for a homeowner, and the room that is often the most difficult to design is the kitchen. The kitchen is also one of the most important rooms in the home, so that makes it extra important! With so many elements that need to be brought together, it is easy to get overwhelmed with the process of designing a space that ties in with the rest of the house.
This post is sponsored by Build with Ferguson, but all observations and opinions expressed here are my own!
When my daughter-in-law came to me for help designing her kitchen, I was thrilled to help sift through her ideas and settle on a cohesive design that would flow from the kitchen throughout the rest of her home. We started by looking at a few inspiration photos my daughter-in-law was drawn to. That is a great way to help narrow things down in the design process. Save pictures of kitchens that you are drawn to, and then look for similarities in the photos that you have collected., You will start to see what your design style is and that can help get things moving. These two kitchens were on the top of her list in terms of colors and design. She knew she wanted warm-toned gray cabinets with brass hardware similar to these kitchens by the talented Amber Lewis and Tinge Floral.
We took these photos as a jumping-off point and began making some of the hard decisions. To help keep my busy daughter-in-law’s mind at ease, and prevent her from going on a wild goose chase trying to find all the elements for her kitchen, we went straight to Build with Ferguson. They have the best selection of home improvement products including trending and traditional styles, unique finishes, and new technologies at competitive prices all in one place. It was easy to find what we were looking for, and finding so many great products in one place helped us to create the look my daughter-in-law was envisioning. Trying to build during a pandemic was not the easiest – many websites were out of stock items. We found Build with Ferguson to be a reliable source that helped us get what we needed when we needed it, thereby not missing any builder deadlines.
My daughter-in-law knew she wanted a farmhouse sink, so we started our search there. Build with Ferguson has a wide selection of beautiful farmhouse sinks. We selected this one made by Elkay, which is substantial and beautiful. It has a thin profile design, so it does not protrude far from the cabinets. It is compatible with the Elkay drying rack, and has the option of 1 or 2 basins, which is something my chef daughter-in-law was very thrilled with.
Having always had a single pull-down faucet, my daughter-in-law was ready to try something else. She liked the idea of a bridge faucet, but she had some concerns about it being too fancy and frilly. We found the Brizo Artesso from Build with Ferguson that was the perfect mix between modern lines and traditional style. Its sleek design is so beautiful that we both kept taking admiring peeks at the faucet when it was still in the box. It certainly makes a subtle statement in this mixed metal kitchen.
When it came to hardware, she had one request, incorporate latches. These Emt
ek latches are lovely and add an element of traditional style. We wanted to also incorporate another type of hardware and we both knew large round knobs were the only way to go. They were the finishing touch to make this kitchen shine. When we came across Build with Ferguson’s selection of Baldwin round knobs we both fell in love. They are show-stopping beauties that give the kitchen the character that my daughter-in-law was looking for. The knobs are so substantial and well made. I could not believe the weight of it when I first picked it up, and the polished brass pairs so nicely with the warm gray cabinets
The final decision for this kitchen was deciding on the pendant lights above the island. This was a difficult choice to make because we did not want the kitchen to lean too fancy. To help tie in the casual style that my daughter in law enjoys, we needed to find lights that would help round everything out. Once again Build with Ferguson was our place for finding well-priced pendant lights with an approachable price tag. We decided on the Winnie 18-inch pendant to tie in black accents from the oven and other hardware throughout the home.
The end result of this kitchen is so beautiful. It beautifully mixes the modern and traditional styles that my daughter-in-law loves. The best part is that my daughter-in-law, who was overwhelmed with the idea of having to drive all over or scour dozens of websites, was able to find everything in one convenient place! Build with Ferguson was easy to work with, and they had what we needed when we needed it. They have dedicated account managers that are available to help streamline ordering, delivery, quoting, and client coordination for projects large and small. Going through Build with Ferguson saved us money and time – two very important factors when working on a project!
