I’m going back two summers here, but I thought I’d show you a few glimpses of the rustic glam wedding party we held for our daughter – just in case you’ve got a summer wedding on the horizon and you are knee deep in the decoration-planning process. These ideas would look equally beautiful and fresh for any kind of summer party. Plus they are simple and easy on the budget.
First of all, let me set the stage a little so that you understand why we chose to celebrate my daughter’s wedding the way we did. Bekah is a beautiful girl – sweet as pie, absolutely adores her family, and pretty as a picture. BUT, and this is a big but when it comes to weddings and receptions – she abhors being the center of attention. Wants nothing to do with being the star of the show. Which, as you can imagine, makes big wedding receptions a little bit of an issue.
In order to honor Bekah’s wishes and help her to feel happy and comfortable on her big day when she mostly definitely was the star of the show, we decided to throw a very intimate and casual after-wedding party at a cabin near Bear Lake. The fact that the party would be almost an hour’s drive from the wedding location, and 3 hours from where most friends and acquaintances lived, meant that only really close friends and family would be likely to attend. And that is EXACTLY what Bekah wanted.
Even though it was a small party for family and a few really close friends, we still wanted it to be lovely and special. And since it was held at a somewhat rustic location, we decided to go with a “rustic glam” theme (we may have made that up wedding genre, but you get the idea!).
Bekah chose a bright and happy mix of colors for her wedding – pinks, blues, yellows, and greens, accented with some gold for sparkle. We emphasized those colors with giant paper pom poms over the dessert table, a fabric banner made with fabric choices in those same colors, and added some twinkle lights and garlands made with gold and silver stars for a little bit of glam.
The flowers were a happy mix of the same colors – this shot shows Bekah’s bouquet being kept fresh in a silver pitcher nearby.
We served fresh lemonade and some finger foods from a table set with a white cloth topped with a simple gold and burlap runner. The sweet little white and gold dot favor boxes reinforced the rustic glam theme.
Simple centerpieces consisted of a wood slice charger topped with a candle, some wildflowers, and a photo of the happy couple.
Because there was a fire pit nearby, and because s’mores are always a hit in a rustic setting, we also offered a do-it-yourself s’mores bar. All the fixin’s were offered up from a cute country hutch.
A homemade garland made of gold and white paper stars helped glam up the country hutch.
Holding the party in the great outdoors meant that the natural scenery took center stage, and all that was required from us in the way of decorating was the addition of a few paper lanterns – my kind of party decor!
The wedding was lovely, and having a simple, beautiful, and easy-to-pull together party afterward made enjoying the day even easier.
