You know I love a beautiful white kitchen – always have, always will! But what do you do when you want a light, bright, white space, but feel the need to cozy it up a little? You add lots of beautiful, natural wood tones and textures, that’s what! Come on in and let me show you the kitchen I created for our new home – The Mountain View House!
I partnered with a few companies on this project. Although I was not compensated, some product was provided at no or discounted cost. The labor and installation costs were paid for by me. This post also contains some affiliate links. As with all my posts, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
As I was designing our home, I kept in mind my overall vision for the home – black, white, and wood, with lots of texture in the finishes and the accessories.
When it came to the kitchen, that meant that I wanted some white cabinetry, but not all white cabinetry. I decided to work in several pieces of cabinetry in white oak with a beautiful natural finish.
I flanked the window wall (the one shown below with that beautiful apron sink from Sinkology) with two tall oak cabinets – the one on the left houses the refrigerator, and the one on the right is a large cabinet for storing all of my dishware, both everyday and specialty dishes.
Black accents were added to complement the black windows – leathered Absolut Black Granite for the perimeter countertops, and beautiful black lighting from Lighting Design. I chose the Brynne pendants from Murray Feiss for over the island, a one-light sconce over the sink from Hinkley Lighting, and the Everett chandelier, also from Hinkley Lighting to hang over the dining table.
I love how the lighting adds tremendously to the overall clean, crisp feel of the kitchen without overpowering it.
You might notice that I went with a variety of metal finishes for the kitchen – champagne gold in the faucets and the hardware on the white cabinets, and matte black hardware for the oak cabinetry. I love how mixing metals adds depth, character, and texture to the room.
One really big detail in this space is the tongue in groove ceiling, which of course is really hard to capture in these photos. But along with the black windows and white walls, it really helps to bring character and texture to the kitchen. You can catch a glimpse of the ceiling in the photo below:
I’m adding a really beautiful hand made rug under the dining room table, so that will add some needed texture and character to that space as well. Can’t wait to show you that beauty, but since it’s being custom made, it’s going to take a while. That’s okay – beautiful, perfect finishing touches are definitely worth the wait!
The open shelves help to keep things light and bright, as does the white backsplash and the pretty white walls.
I’ll list lots of the details below (paint colors, etc.) Thanks for stopping by today – it’s always fun to read you comments!
