Christmas Card Chalkboard Display
The holidays will be here before we know it, and that means those beautiful cards from family and friends far and near will start rolling in. I especially love the ones with photos on them – they are such precious treasures.
I don’t want to just toss those colorful, fun cards in a basket on the counter and forget about them, so I always try to figure out ways to display the cards so that we can enjoy them during the holiday season.
This year I decided to highlight the cards on this cute door-turned chalkboard. It really was such a fast and easy project that I thought it was worth sharing.
Here’s what you need:
- A vintage door (check recycle stores, Facebook yard sale sites, and even Etsy shops)
- A small container of chalkboard paint. I used this paint:
- Fun accessories to dress your finished chalkboard up
Once you’ve found your door and bought the paint, all you need to do is paint the recesssed area of the door with the chalkboard paint. My door took two coats, but one 4oz. container of paint did the trick.
After the paint has dried completely (the instructions on the paint container suggest two coats – one painted vertically and the other horizontally), be sure to prep your chalkboard by rubbing a stick of chalk all over the board and then wiping it off. This primes the surface so that when you do write on it, the images will erase easily.
Now the fun part – decorate your card display/chalkboard with some fun accessories. I hung this charming plaid flannel deer head at the top, tied a scarf around his neck, and hung some vintage skates from the door handle. Ta-da! Done! I got my deer head last year at Target. I don’t see it on their website, but maybe it’s still in their stores? If not, here are some cute alternatives:

To display the cards, I plan to drape some twine from side to side (held on by push pins in the sides of the door), and then just tape the cards  to the twine. At that point, I’ll erase the countdown writing, but until those cards start rolling in, this will be my countdown to Christmas!
Hope you get lots of fun Christmas cards from your loved ones this holiday season! Thanks for stopping by, friends!
