Hello and Happy Holidays! I’m so glad you’ve joined me for my first home tour of the 2017 holiday season. If you’ve found your way here via Ashley at Modern Glam, then I know you’ve already enjoyed some holiday decor happiness! Come on inside while I talk for a moment about my home and my return red and white Christmas decor this year.
It’s been a few years since I’ve gone with a classic red and white theme for my Christmas decorating, but I decided to give it a go this year. We’re in a rental home right now while we build our new home, and I think a traditional red and white theme goes better than a neutral one in this particular home.
Sadly, there are certain things that make decorating and taking pictures something of a challenge in this home (namely the yellow walls, the drab looking fireplace, the rather orange-toned cabinets, and the less than lovely light fixtures). And although I really love all the natural light from these big windows, it’s a real challenge for me to get a decent shot against all that light with my limited equipment and skills!
So please bear with me this year as I attempt to share our home and my decorating style in less than ideal circumstances!
Because of all the wood in this house, it felt appropriate to decorate with more of a nod to classic red and white, and to add in a lot of touches from nature.
On my white flocked tree, that meant adding in long snow-dusted faux branches, red apples, cranberries, pinecones, and the sweetest little vintage deer ornaments.
A big basket holds a cozy plaid wool blanket, few extra pillows, and some more branches and cranberries for a natural touch.
My little collection of metal deer helps dress up the coffee table, and my plaid deer head adorns the mirror on the right. Red poinsettias and a beautiful floral arrangement from Wisteria Flowers and Gifts add more touches from nature.
Here’s a closeup of the arrangement – isn’t it just gorgeous? I love how the big magnolia leaves, greens, pinecones and red berries tie right into my decorating theme. And it looks so real – I started to water it when it came before I figured out that it wasn’t live 🙂
Ghost is taking a breather from all the decorating. He loves any soft spot – carpet, rugs, you name it, he’s there.
The fun letter board comes from Letter Board Company and makes for a great conversation starter!
In the entry, my white painted buffet was the perfect place for my traditional nativity set. I love always setting aside a spot in my home to pay tribute to the real reason for our Christmas celebrations, and nativities are my favorite way to do that.
I especially love directing attention to the nativity with this simple but beautiful hand-lettered sign made for me by my talented daughter. I’d love for you to have a copy to display in your home.

I hope you enjoy it!
A little hallway alcove holds a few presents and adds a touch of cheer.
Our teeny little dining area gets into the Christmas spirit with a simple holiday tablescape featuring red and white with touches from nature.
A white lantern filled with fresh cranberries and a candle, and surrounded by pinecones and a few red berry stems forms the simple centerpiece.
Each place setting received a black and white placemat, white plate, pinecone paper plate, and white bowl. Inside the white bowl is a little wreath made from red berry vine.
I added a little color and variety by choosing a different napkin (still in red) to go with each setting.
Bottle brush trees from the thrift store and a simple white votive candle round out each place setting.
That’s it for today’s holiday home tour – I hope you enjoyed it! I’ll be back next week to share how I’ve decked the halls in our guest bedrooms for our holiday visitors. Hope you come back over for another peek!
