Now that the interior of The Mountain View House is mostly complete, it’s time to do an exterior reveal – so here we go! Come along with me as I give you an exterior tour and talk a little about the elements we chose, including some pretty awesome exterior doors!
I received free product from Therma-Tru to write about in this post. The labor and installation costs were paid for by me. As with all my posts, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Waaay back when (seems like ages ago!) I showed you my design plans for the exterior of our home. And in this post, I talked about the exterior doors from Therma-Tru that I chose to use on the front of our house.
Well, the house is mostly done now. We still need to do some landscaping – along the driveway, the foundation, and the front walkway (all landscaping right now was provided by Mother Nature). We also need to bring in some fill against the little retaining wall you see at the back of the house so we can install the stairs to the upper main level decking. There are a few other details, but that’s okay. It all takes time, right?
But enough of the home is completed that I thought you might like to see how it turned out, and how the various design details, including the doors, work together to form the design features of the home.
As you can see from the pictures above, our home is built in a very rustic mountain environment. We’re nestled up in the foothills on a fair-size piece of land, and we’re surrounded by mountains and lots and lots of shrub oak, sage brush, and cactus! Our neighborhood HOA architectural rules require that all homes built in the neighborhood have a mountain feel to them. No light colors are allowed on the exteriors, and there has to be a certain percentage of stone on the home’s exterior.
In keeping with the surrounding environment and the HOA requirements, we used stone, shingle siding, board and batten, and fir beams on the exterior of our home to give it a mountain appeal.
The front porch entry (which faces into the mountainside) is framed with stained fir beams, sheathed in shingle siding, and has a standing seam metal roof. For the front door, we went with the Classic-Craft Rustic Collection 2/3 lite, 2-panel door from Therma-Tru and painted it SW Iron Ore to go with the board and batten sections of the siding.
As I mentioned in the previous post about how I selected our doors, we’re very secluded. I wasn’t worried about privacy, so using clear glass in the front door for a welcoming appearance was a no-brainer. And added bonus – I love how much light floods into the house from the window of the door!
Here’s a shot of the inside of the door in our front entry. I love that fact that this fiberglass door can be painted or stained. Although the outside is painted, we chose to stain the inside so that we get a shot of warm wood tones against the pretty white walls.
I think the matte black hardware looks gorgeous against those warm wood tones, too.
For a cohesive look, we used the same Therma-Tru door in our little breezeway that connects the main part of the house with the garage. And I love it there just as much!
I really appreciate how much character this door adds to this tiny little space – looks totally custom, tailored, and just plain sharp!
And if you want to see how this door looks from the inside – here you go. Again, we had the inside stained for warmth and contrast with the white walls and black hardware.
This door is so hard to get a shot of from the inside because the hallway isn’t wide enough to stand in front of the door! But I think you get the picture 🙂
Warm wood tones, white walls, black windows, and black flooring – my favorite combination! And the entry door fits right into the design scheme here.
That’s it for the main entry doors, but I’ll show you just a bit more of the exterior.
Here’s the full shot of the garage – this is where we used the stone required by the HOA. I LOVE how the stone turned out – gives kind of an old-world look to the garage.
I’ll walk you around the outside again next spring when we get a little landscaping in to cover up some of the foundation and add a little more softness. The home may be a little on the unfinished side still, but we’re pretty happy with how it’s turned out, and how our Therma-Tru doors are right at home in our mountain view house!
Thanks for stopping by today – have a great day!
