The holidays are upon us, and that means preparing our homes and our guest rooms for those much loved family and friends who will be visiting. Today I’m participating in the Meaningful Holiday Home Tour sponsored by Laura at Meaning Spaces, and I’m going to show you how I dressed up a guest room in our home with the hopes up lighting up the eyes of our littlest visitors this season.
If you’ve been following the tour so far, and you’ve arrived here from Brit’s at House Updated, then welcome! I love Brit’s bright and beautiful home!
I had two cute little helpers decorate my children’s room tree this year, and judging from their faces, they loved putting up those happy colors and fun ornaments on the little tree in my guest room.
This cute white tree is just so fun to decorate. It’s light, bright, happy, and not humongous – which makes it perfect for tucking into a small space, such as in this teeny little guest room in our rental home. And because the tree is white, I feel like it doesn’t take over a small room visually.
Last year I had this tree in my entryway, and I spiffed it up in more of a glam style, as you can see in this photo from last year:
You can see more of last year’s tree and tour here. And you can read more about our temporary home here, and see my first holiday tour in our rental (and read a little about my struggles with decorating it) here.
This year I went for colorful and happy – and children oriented. It was fun to deck this white tree out this year in reds and blues – such a cheerful combination.
I decided to put all of the colorful and sentimental ornaments from when our kids were little on this tree. Since it’s the perfect size for little ones to decorate, it only seemed right to deck it out with ornaments made and loved by children. You moms all know how those ornaments are – not always the most stylish, but always the most sentimental!
After the tree was decorated, I added in a few other bright and colorful holiday touches, like this fun string of lights from Ikea. I love its charming red and white striped cloth cord, and it’s always fun to snuggle under the twinkle of Christmas lights.
Isn’t this little red VW beetle pillow the cutest? I bought it a couple years ago here. It’s designed by Lucy at Craftberry Bush. I didn’t see it in her lineup this year, but she has plenty of similar and darling ones listed in her shop.
I like to add a nativity to as many of my rooms at Christmas time as I can, and this cute little wooden one has just the right colors. I have no idea when or where I got this one from, but it’s sweet and simple and perfect for a children’s room.
The nutcrackers in the hex shelves actually belong to my kids – they were gifts from their grandparents when they were little. Guess I might need to give them back to them at some point now that they all have their own houses to decorate!
This blue chair is a favorite of mine – I love the tufting on the back (which you can’t see much of because of the pillows). It’s the perfect space to snuggle with a little one and read a Christmas story.
I found the cute Christmas subway art here, and since the colors were a perfect match, I had to print it out. I popped it into a simple white Ikea frame. The colors in the print would be much brighter if I had printed it on photo paper, but I went for the quick and easy printing available locally – it’s still sweet though and I love how it ties this little corner together.
And that’s my children’s guest room – all ready for some fun sleepovers this holiday season!
Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you’ll continue on the tour and stop in to see Courtney at 12th and White‘s beautiful home bright and early tomorrow morning.
Have a great day friends!
