As a mother of five, I have always loved the special treatment I receive on Mother’s Day. Knowing that all those sleepless night, endless carpooling, and the hours spent in meal preparation, laundry, etc. are appreciated makes all the difference in the world. I adore my five beautiful children – they are truly the light of my life and my greatest joy! I wouldn’t trade one minute of the time I spent raising them for all the gold in the world. Plus, being raised by a wonderful, tireless, and dedicated mother helps me appreciate celebrations such as Mother’s Day even more! So it truly was a delight to spend some time thinking about mothers and preparing a special Mother’s Day tablescape in honor of this wonderful day of celebration.

As luck had it, we made a trip up to the family cabin this week to get it ready to open for the summer. Since I was intrigued with the idea of building a pretty and delicate tablescape on the rustic top of the dining table at the cabin, I ran with that idea and put together what is really a very simple, slightly rustic, and pretty Mother’s Day tablescape.

I created the floral centerpiece using two bunches of flowers I picked up at Costco – one bunch consisted of two dozen pink salmon roses, and the other was a mix of daisies, greens, and some blue flowers I don’t know the name of! Since I had to buy the flowers early and transport them up to the cabin, I put them in my fridge overnight. Unfortunately, some of the mixed florals bunch must have been too close to a fan in the fridge, because many of those flowers were ruined (I think I froze them!) when I took them out the next morning. Sad day!! So in the end, what I had left to work with was a bunch of roses, a few yellow daisies, and some assorted greens. Oh, well – live and learn!

And this is the arrangement I came up with. I created the central floral arrangement using a loose gathering of the flowers in a vintage milk glass compote (anchored with floral foam). I love the contrast of the pretty white compote against the rustic reclaimed wood dining table. (And as a side note – bonus points to the reader who can name the green draping vegetation on the left side of the arrangement. I found it in the pantry at the cabin, and since I was low on greens, I threw it in!)

I also thought a delicate china plate would look pretty against the table, so I skipped the tablecloth and/or placemats, and built the place settings right on the rustic surface of the table.  And I have to say, I really, really love the contrast of the refined against the rustic.

Individual place settings consist of a dinner plate (vintage china with a ruffled, gold-trimmed edge), a fabric napkin in a salmon pink to go with the roses, a teacup with a miniature floral arrangement, and a name card for each guest.

Aren’t these just the cutest name cards ever? I think so! But because they have pictures of all my sweet little babies on them, I may be just a liiiiitle biased!

In any case, these black and white polaroid shots of the guests (in this case, my kids) with their names written on the bottom make quick, sweet, and nostalgic name cards for place settings.

The blueberry muffins and fresh fruit look almost as pretty as the flowers!

Another thing I love about this table arrangement is how the green chairs really add a nice pop of color and complement the fresh flowers and pretty place settings. As an added bonus, they make a nice contrast against the reclaimed wood table!
